About

EME is a multidisciplinary, Tagalog (PH) artist based in Naarm – Melbourne, Australia – Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Land of the Kulin Nation.

Their practice explores the interconnectedness of all beings, guided by the Filipinx/a/o core value of kapwa (shared identity). Creating conceptual works across themes of lived experiences, the everyday, invisibility, heritage, sexuality and gender. It is often expressed through community connectivity, care, representation and action to showcase the communal experience to celebrate the nuances of being – utilising art as a tool for expression and survival. Their works experiments with photography, print-media, ceramics, sound, video, events, installation and participatory methods.

Eme has a background in MA Arts Management at RMIT University and BVA (Honours) at SCA, Sydney University. They are a committee member of Trocadero Projects and Liyang Network: a local to global advocacy network that amplifies the call to action of environmental and human rights defenders in Mindanao, Philippines on the frontline of struggle for land, livelihood and self-determination. @liyang_network
